redox reactions are oxidation reduction reaction.
red=reduction
ox=oxidation
Oxidation refers to the loss of electrons, while reduction refers to the gain of electrons. Each reaction by itself is called a "half-reaction", simply because we need two (2) half-reactions to form a whole reaction.
both oxidation and reduction take place simultaneously.
it is difficult to write a chemical reaction here, hope you can relate to the reaction below...
e.g.
Cu (s) ----> Cu2+ + 2 e- oxidation
2 Ag+ (aq) + 2 e- ------> 2 Ag (s) reducation
both these reactions combine to form a redox reactio.the electrons lost by one reaction are taken by the second reaction...
complete redox reaction becomes..
Cu (s) + 2 Ag+ (aq) --->Cu2+ + 2 Ag (s)
