While CBSE class 12th results are freshly out, there's another dish cooking up, the admission process of Delhi University! With so many colleges and so many courses, Delhi University is a hot destination for several 12th class students all over the country. Continuing the trend of innovation and competition, Delhi University this year started another entrance exam: CATE.
CATE of Common Aptitude Test in English is started by the Delhi University's department of English. The sale of its forms started recently on 20th May 2010, Thursday with 500 forms selling on the opening day. The forms will be available till 31st of May and the entrance test of CATE is scheduled for 9th June, 2010, Wednesday.
A total of 17 colleges from Delhi University are participating this year in CATE. Some of these are Hindu College, IP college for women, Miranda House, Lady Shri Ram college and Kamla Nehru College. These will admit students in BA (Honours) English through CATE exam. DU authorities expect a steep surge in sale of CATE forms after the declaration of DU result. A total of 15,000 forms have been published.
The process has been decentralized this year to avoid the chaos that prevailed last time when thousands of students had landed up at the Arts Faculty building on the North Campus. This year, the forms can be purchased and submitted at any of the 17 participating colleges. The students have to fill an OMR form which costs Rs 300. This includes the registration as well as the examination fee for CATE.
The CATE test will have two parts. Only those answer sheets which meet a certain cut-off in the objective-type questions will be evaluated further while eliminating the rest. There will not be any elimination for OBC category students however. Every student must have a minimum aggregate of 60% in class 12th with a minimum of 60% in English to appear in CEAT exam.
So if you are willing to pursue a BA (Honours) English course from one of the renowned colleges of Delhi University, CATE is your calling.
